In 2018 I was experimenting with shaders and lighting techniques to render a scene out of 3ds max to look impressionistic. Here are the main techniques I used:
- The ambient occlusion shading uses the inverse color as the diffuse. This was done to make the shadows look like they were done using a complimentary color.
- The advanced lighting used boosted final gather diffuse bounced that used very low number or rays. This adds blotchy randomized highlights to each frame.
- Lots of textures were painted by hand to look more like rough panting.
The scene is centered around my childhood house.
